Losing Sucks
When you're team loses, usually you're over it in the next day or so. Maybe if it was a title game it takes you a little bit longer, but when you work in athletics, losing hurts even more because its your job.
Take Thursday night for example. While the average Florida State was over the loss to NC State when they got up Friday morning, the nightmare of the loss as just beginning for me the next morning. Nothing sucks worse than having to go to work the next day after a football loss. Football games are such a big event that encompass the entire athletic department that anytime you lose, it brings the whole department down. Everyone walks around with their head down, moping and you're not motivated to do anything.
Another thing that makes football losses tougher to take is that they play so few games. When you play 65 softball games or 30 basketball games you've got a shorter window to think about the loss and a quicker time to get another win. But when you lose Saturday afternoon it sits with you until about Wednesday or Thursday. It isn't until Thursday evening/Friday morning that the potential for that next week overtakes the pain of the previous loss.
Of course the flipside is also true. You win a big game Saturday and it carries you the whole way until the next week. Last year after Florida State beat Miami on Labor Day you would have thought they discovered oil under the stadium.
